The fifth WorldSBK round has concluded today at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic.
On Saturday Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK riders Bahattin Sofuoglu and Tito Rabat took part in Superpole and Race 1, with Sofuoglu scoring points, fifteenth across the line and Rabat seventeenth.
This morning the duo was back on track for the ten-lap Superpole Race. Sofuoglu finished sixteenth and Rabat twentieth.
Race 2 ran in cool but dry conditions in the early afternoon. Sofuoglu started well and battled as part of the chasing group. He was well inside the points zone when he was handed a long lap penalty for having run long at the first chicane and returning to the track without respecting the time limit. He then suffered a sudden drop in rear tyre performance which caused him to lose further ground, crossing the line in final seventeenth position.
Rabat was again unlucky in that he had to retire with a technical problem just a few laps from the end of the race.
The sixth WorldSBK round will take place at the Misano World Circuit in Italy on 13-15 June.
"Sono soddisfatto del lavoro svolto dal team in questo weekend. Peccato per le penalità inflitte a Bahattin che oggi ci hanno escluso da una zona punti che sarebbe più che meritata per tutti noi. Purtroppo Tito continua a non riuscire a concretizzare il lavoro della squadra".
“Un altro weekend sfortunato. Partire indietro rende tutto più difficile. Nella Superpole Race non ho trovato un ritmo abbastanza veloce da poter recuperare posizioni mentre in Gara2 ho avuto un problema tecnico che mi ha costretto al ritiro. Spero che questa situazione cambi al più presto, non solo per me, ma per tutta la squadra. Ci impegniamo tutti al massimo ma sino ad ora i risultati non sono arrivati. Speriamo di far bene nel prossimo round di casa a Misano”.
“Per la Superpole race abbiamo apportato alcune modifiche alla moto, grazie alle quali ho trovato un feeling migliore. Ho potuto tenere un buon ritmo e lottare con i piloti del mio gruppo. In Gara2 ero veloce ed ero in zona punti, ma purtroppo nei giri finali la gomma posteriore si è deteriorata molto e mi ha fatto perdere molte posizioni. Peccato perché avrei potuto conquistare dei punti per la classifica. Nel complesso è stato un week end positivo, nel quale abbiamo dimostrato di poter stare con i piloti ufficiali. Ringrazio molto la squadra che mi ha aiutato molto anche qui a Most”.
