Today’s race 2 at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic rounds out the third WorldSSP300 round, in which the Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSSP300 Team had fielded youngsters Marc Vich and Gianmaria Ibidi.
In yesterday’s race 1, the Italian closed sixteenth, just outside the points zone, while the Spaniard finished twenty-fifth.
The weekend’s second and final race ran this afternoon in cool, cloudy conditions. Rain began to fall just before the start forced race direction to shorten the race to just 10 laps. On a damp track, Ibidi was able to work his way up and was fighting for the top ten when he was unfortunately caught up in a crash at the first chicane, which forced him to retire.
Vich ran a good race and, despite starting from further back, was able to make up positions, crossing the line seventeenth just a few seconds outside the points zone.
The next WorldSSP300 round is scheduled to take place on 13-15 June at the Misano World Circuit in Italy.
Sandro Carusi – Team Principal
“Ibidi has had a very positive debut weekend and would have scored points today had he not been caught up in an incident in the final stages. Vich also had a good weekend and continues to make progress. Both leave me feeling confident ahead of the next home round at Misano.”
Marc Vich
“It definitely wasn’t an easy weekend, at a track I didn’t know. Today I ran a careful race, trying not to overdo it and score the best possible result despite starting from a long way back on the grid. I came close to the points zone in the end. Things will go better at the next Misano round, a home round for my team, who I want to thank for all their great work here.”
Gianmaria Ibidi
“I improved a lot today and was able to stick with the leading group. It was a tough race, with many passes and contacts. Unfortunately, during the penultimate lap, I tried to make a pass but crashed following contact with another rider. I’m really sorry because I could have definitely scored a good result and points. Thanks to the whole team for their and to Sandro Carusi for giving me this opportunity.”
