Constant improvement for Swain and Vich at Portimao

The Supersport 300 World Championship got underway yesterday at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao, Portugal.

The Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSSP300 Team is competing with two young riders in the shape of Cameron Swain and March Vich, both of whom are making their debut in the category and racing at this circuit for the first time.
Yesterday, the two riders completed a free practice in which they began to learn the Portuguese track and work on the setup of their YZF-R3 machines.
In the afternoon they were on track for Superpole, in which Vich (1’57”146) finished twenty-fourth and Swain (1’58”464) twenty-ninth. With these results, they lined up on the eighth and tenth row of the grid for the first race of the season, which ran this afternoon and saw Swain finish nineteenth, immediately ahead of team-mate Vich.
Tomorrow the two riders will take part in the second and final race making up this first WorldSSP300 round.

“Our aim at this round was mainly to allow our young riders to gain experience, considering they’ve never raced at this track before, not exactly an easy one to interpret. To finish the race without making mistakes represents a positive result and I’m sure that tomorrow both will achieve better results in Race 2.”

Cameron Swain #87 - "My race went well if we consider that a mistake I made in Superpole meant that I started from the back rows but was able to finish nineteenth. My fastest lap of the race was my best of the weekend, and this shows that I’m able to consistently improve. We’re working in the right direction and I thank the team for this. For tomorrow’s race I hope to achieve a better result and maybe reach the points zone.”

Marc Vich #96 - “For my first race, I can’t say it went badly, but if we can improve the setup of the bike, I’m sure we can achieve a good result, which I want to obtain as a way of thanking the team for their hard work. I’ll give it my all to finish the weekend in the best possible way.”
